Chief Message

As the Fire Chief for the City of Platteville, I welcome you to our website. I am honored to lead such an amazing group of Volunteer Firefighters. The Platteville Fire Department Inc. serves the City of Platteville, Platteville Township, Lima Township, and parts of Elk Grove, Smelser, Harrison, Ellenboro, and Belmont Township. This area covers 136 square miles and a population of approximately 15,500 citizens.

In 2001, I had the honor of participating in the City of Platteville’s Citizen Academy prior to joining the Platteville Fire Department.  Upon completing the Citizen Academy, I joined the Platteville Fire Department in April of 2001. It did not take long after the first night of the Citizen Academy with the Fire Department that I knew I wanted to be a firefighter and my passion with the fire service began in April of 2001.

In January 2014, I was promoted to the position of Fire Chief by the membership of the Platteville Fire Department to which I still currently serve.  It has been an honor to lead an amazing group of volunteer firefighters and I will continue to focus every day on making the Platteville Fire Department one of the most respected departments in the area and continue to provide the citizens of Platteville and the Townships we serve with the best possible service.

Lastly, I would like to thank the community for their continued support of the fire department.  Our department can contribute our success thanks to the dedication of the volunteer members and the citizens of the community.

Chief Ryan Simmons
